White-tailed Deer Management for Arkansas Landowners

Picture of a buck.

Workshop Coming in May 2012
(Date and location to be announced)

Who should attend

Landowners interested in improving deer habitat and harvest management strategies on their property as a business venture; those who would are currently leasing or would like to expand an existing deer lease operation; anyone interested in generating additional income.

Learn

Private landowners can put their land to work for them. Whether deer leasing is a new source of income, the means to pay for land improvements or a way to fund a lasting family legacy of land ownership, this workshop will help you figure out your options and opportunities. White-tailed deer experts from universities and state agencies will provide the latest information available on deer habitat management, harvest management strategies and developing natural resource enterprises. An attorney will discuss liability and legal considerations.

Speakers

Dr. Don White Jr. is the James M. White Professor of Wildlife Ecology in the School of Forest Resources (SFR) at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Don earned his Ph.D. in 1996 in wildlife science from Montana State University-Bozeman, studying grizzly bears in Glacier National Park, and since coming to the University of Arkansas in 2000, he has conducted many studies on Arkansas elk. Dr. Bronson Strickland is an associate extension professor of wildlife ecology and management at Mississippi State University. He earned his Ph.D. at Mississippi State University studying the ecology and management of white-tailed deer populations. His master’s degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville involved estimating white-tailed deer carrying capacity. His numerous publications about deer encompass the spectrum from professional journals to popular articles in Quality Whitetails and Mississippi Bowhunter Association magazine.
