Forestry
Continuing Education
In 1993 a continuing education program was created through the Arkansas
Forest Resources Center in recognition of the educational and training needs of
natural resource professionals in the State. Landowners, foresters, and other
natural resource professionals can take short courses in a variety of topics
including Global Information Systems applications in forestry, forest finance,
estate planning, timber income taxes, environmental law and policy, thinning
methods, uneven-aged silviculture, hardwood management and regeneration,
prescribed fire and listening skills. These courses are held in various
locations throughout the state. These courses are designed to provide up to date
information to it's audience insuring that new technologies and research is
available outside of traditional college course work. Upcoming courses on urban
forestry, improved timber cruising methods, timber operations and thinning are
also in the works. The program is driven by input from forest landowners,
foresters and other natural resource managers to provide needed information and
updates.
